What makes us Different

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

  1. Purposeful name: Our name is drawn from the Bible (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15). It expresses God’s present and future desire for the whole of creation– human and non-human, culminating in “a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1,5). Its meaning and its alignment with God’s agenda is clearly understandable.
  2. Specific focus: Rather than set up or sponsor our own practical projects, we encourage Christians to participate in existing local initiatives, thereby fostering goodwill/credibility and taking the “Good News” into the community. Accordingly, we concentrate on teaching, education, advocacy, advice, resourcing and outdoor experiences.
  3. Scriptural authority: We promote creation care because it is a biblical mandate. We view the Bible as the primary guide for faith and practice, for what we believe and how we behave. It is the key point of reference for every aspect of our ministry, and the foundation of any case that we make for creation care (2 Cor. 4:2; 2 Tim. 3:16-17).
  4. Orthodox theology: Our convictions align with the plumb line of the “faith once delivered” (Jude 3) by Christ through the apostles and defined in the various creeds of the early church such as the Apostles’ Creed, which summarise their teachings (I Corinthians 15:1-4).
  5. National compass: We provide a distinctly Kiwi orientation and approach to Christian involvement in creation care. We are home-grown, independent, and only operate in Aotearoa NZ. Our ethos and activities are tailored to the unique landscapes, worldviews and multicultural milieux of this country, especially its spiritual and ecological needs.
  6. Targeted audience: We mainly (but not exclusively) seek to inform and influence, Christians (individuals, churches, and para-church groups), especially those who espouse the “evangel” or gospel of Jesus as Saviour and Lord. We want to motivate and mobilise them to adopt creation care as an integral part of their discipleship and outreach.
  7. Missional emphasis: Because God’s approach to mission is holistic, cosmic and universal, NCNZ is committed to sharing the Good News with the whole creation (Mark 16:15). We see creation care as pregnant with the possibility of relationship with the Creator. It is a golden opportunity to get to know and influence those who do not yet know Jesus.

These seven distinctives together make NCNZ unique.
