W.I.N.G. s – Worship-In-Nature Groups

  •  The Old Testament Hebrew word midbar, means both “wilderness” and “mouth/organ of speech”. The wilderness is a channel through which God speaks. In the USA such gatherings are called “Church of the Wild”. In the UK they are called “Forest Church”. Another popular expression that is often heard is the “Cathedral of the Outdoors.” To avoid the word “Church” we would call them WINGs.
  • These groups are for people who wish to encounter God through the natural world (Natura Divina). Insofar as worship is anything that brings blessing, delight, and honour to God, both praising him in a natural setting, and engaging in creation care, may be viewed as worship.
  • Any group comes under the umbrella of New Creation New Zealand, they therefore adhere to its ethos and convictions, and are accountable to its Board via a designated point person. NCNZ oversees the WINGs network. A local group is known as  WING  + the location, e.g. WING Tauranga
  • A WING is not a church, but it may provide a focus, approach or activity not available in some local churches. As such, it is a ministry to the whole Body of Christ and is open to anyone.
  • WINGs meet several times each year (perhaps monthly or bi-monthly). Members of the group facilitate encounters with God through the natural world.
  • Each WING is led by a small team of volunteers. Individuals can apply to NCNZ to begin a WING, or vice-versa, but it is expected that a leader will then build a team around him/her.
  • A WING is self-supporting. Expenses are met through donations from participants. A gold coin koha per month might be suggested. NCNZ will support WING leaders through resources, networking, and get-togethers.

A possible catch-cry is:

If you love God and nature,
come and WING it with us!
